Steamer No.10 Theatre offers C.A.S.T. (Creative Arts at Steamer 10) Weekly One Acts in the summer!
Each week a new skill is worked on or script is staged, ending with a short performance presented for families and friends on the last day of camp.
See what Steamer Shows are happening this summer:
June 29-July 3rd
Puss in Boots (12pm)
A traditional tale of a cat who undertakes the task of remaking his master from peasant to Prince. Then marries him off to a beautiful Princess, all so Puss will have a pleasant place to live. But, the journey is where we find the fun and the job of turning a sow’s ear into a silk purse is a monumental one, even for a cat as talented as Puss.
July 6-10
The Reluctant Dragon
(Note – this show can be middle ages, or modern in the basement of an
apartment building.)
The Reluctant Dragon – Kenneth Grahame’s tale of a child’s encounter with a dragon who can breathe fire, but prefers to discuss poetry. The locals hear about the dragon and call for St. George to slay the beast. Everyone prepares for battle, but the dragon will have no part of it, then the fun begins!
July 13-17
Rip Van Winkle
A colonial American villager, Rip Van Winkle goes hunting, meets mysterious Dutchmen, drinks their strong liquor and falls deeply asleep in the Catskill Mountains. He awakes 20 years later to a very changed world, having missed the American Revolution.
July 20-July 24
Billy Beg and the Bull
A traditional Cinderella tale, except Cinderella is a boy named Billy, an Irish Prince who does not get along with his step sister. The fairy godmother is his magical pet Bull, and the Princess he saves from a Dragon, must search all of Ireland to find him using the boot he left behind.
July 27-July 31
Rumpelstiltskin (Two-Act)
Steamer No.10’s not quite traditional tale of a Miller’s daughter and a magical, maniacal, schizophrenic, wood gnome – Rumpelstiltskin. The Miller’s Daughter must match wits with Rumpelstiltskin to save herself!
August 3-7
Hansel & Gretel
Hansel and Gretel is a tale of children empowering themselves and using their wits to survive. First they overcome being abandoned in the forest by their parents and creating a way to find their way home, then by outwitting a cannibalistic witch.
August 10-14
Wrinkle in Time
One of literature’s most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, is back — braces, stubbornness and all. Once again, she’s joining forces with Mrs. Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O’Keefe and more to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity and find herself. In the end, we know two things for sure: 1. Love CAN overcome evil and 2. There IS such a thing a tesseract.
August 17-21
Robin Hood (and the Good & Bad Fairies of Nottingham)
The Robin Hood tale, until the Fairy Queen, and her rivals, get involved; then the fun begins. Robin Hood robs from the rich and gives to the poor. Robin Hood loves Maid Marion, who loves Robin, who battles the Sheriff, who loves Marion; who can’t stand the Sheriff. Also doing battle on their own sides are the Fairy Queen, her court, and trouble-making Bad fairies!
August 24-28
Wanda the Psychic Wombat
Wanda, the last psychic wombat on Earth, is struggling to run her fortune-telling business. Desperate for an assistant, Wanda places an ad in, yielding a wide variety of whacky applicants. With nothing left to do, Wanda considers selling her business to some shady-looking businesspeople planning to open another 24-hour Floormart location. With a little help from her friends, she just may be able to change what's in the cards.
